Alasdair Gold reveals Conte has taken a ‘very big shine’ to Spurs youngster

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Antonio Conte has taken a very big shine to Oliver Skipp since arriving at the club.

Skipp has seemingly cemented his place in Tottenham’s starting eleven this season after returning from his loan spell at Norwich over the summer.

The 21-year-old is one of the few players who shone during Nuno Espirito Santo’s four-month reign at the club.

Conte started Skipp alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in his first two matches in charge against Vitesse Arnhem and Everton before the youngster missed the clash against Leeds due to suspension.

The Spurs academy graduate came back into the side for Tottenham’s Europa Conference League clash against NS Mura, which the North Londoners lost 2-1.

From the eleven that started in Slovenia, Skipp was one of only three players to have kept their place in the side for Sunday’s clash against Bunrely, although the match was eventually postponed due to heavy snowfall after the team sheets were named.

The academy graduated then started the game against Brentford last night and won the Man of the Match award.

Gold stated that Conte’s decision to bring Skipp back into the team over Winks despite the youngster featuring in midweek was a big indication of how much the Italian values him.

The journalist said on his YouTube channel: “Skipp over Winks was a big one. Winks didn’t play at all in Mura, but Conte’s said, ‘nah Skippy’s my boy!’

“I’ve been made very aware that he’s come in and immediately taken a very big shine to Oliver Skipp.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Skipp and Hojbjerg are likely to play every important game as Conte seems to trust both of them to do what’s required on and off the ball.

It will be interesting to see if Conte adopts a 5-3-2 in the coming weeks instead of a 3-4-3 so that he can fit one of either Lo Celso, Ndombele or Dele into the team.
