Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Antonio Conte was left surprised by how quickly his proposed move to Tottenham collapsed.

It seemed earlier in the week as if it was just a matter of time before Conte was officially announced as the next Tottenham boss.

However, the deal unravelled quickly, with reports indicating that Tottenham pulled out of talks since they felt the Italian’s demands of a transfer kitty over £100m were unrealistic.

Gold has now explained that talks between Spurs and Conte’s entourage showed plenty of promise early on and there was a genuine belief from both sides that a deal could be struck.

The journalist revealed that the information coming out of Conte’s camp is that he was ‘bewildered’ by how quickly the talks ended.

Gold added that those within Tottenham state that the club had to speak to the former Inter boss to explore all available options as they look to appoint the best person for the job.

However, they also felt that the long-term financial health of the club would be in jeopardy if the 51-year-old’s demands were met.

Spurs were also said to have concerns over Conte’s unwillingness to commit to giving opportunities to the likes of Oliver Skipp, Ryan Sessegnon, Dane Scarlett and Alfie Devine so that they could continue their development.

  1. Yes it would not do if we appointed one of the best managers on present record in the world at spurs. Too expensive. What cost no cl next year. What cost having to sell kane to the club. What affect will it have on son. However billionaire levy who oversaw the stadium build which doubled in price. Who has failed to make enough money available for players to be bought, has oversaw the buying of sissoko, dier, Sanchez aurier, Doherty and ndombele all who have failed the last given he had well known fitness issues and his performances he has been very very poor to say the least. Yes levy is quite a billionaire he knows how to waste money at spurs on rubbish to make sure in 22 yrs we have 1 worthless Cup. A joke of a chairman, board and owner who care nothing for the team or the fans.
