Alasdair Gold reveals four positions Spurs will prioritise strengthening in summer

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Antonio Conte will prioritise strengthening the Tottenham squad in four different areas when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

Tottenham have blown hot and cold since the turn of the year, having been eliminated from all cup competitions and with plenty of work to do to stay in the fight for Champions League qualification.

Conte has not hidden his frustration at the North London club’s current predicament, admitting that he is not used to the challenge of taking over a side that is a long way away from competing for major honours (Independent).

Spurs managed to strengthen their squad in January with the addition of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski but the club lost out to Barcelona in the race for Adama Traore and were beaten by Liverpool in their pursuit of Luis Diaz (The Athletic).

Gold has insisted that the Lilywhites will look to target a right wing-back, a striker, a left-sided centre-back and a creative midfielder in the summer.

When asked about Tottenham’s transfer targets on a Q&A in Football.London, the journalist responded: “There’s been a lot of talk about Tottenham having to spend this summer in order to convince both Conte and Kane of their ambition, while Fabio Paratici also likes a free transfer. I think Spurs will be pretty busy this summer.

“They need to be. In terms of positions, at this point, they want a new striker, a right wing-back, a left-sided centre-back and another creative player. Anyone who leaves will have to be replaced as well. Like I say, it has to be a busy one.”

Kane might push to leave again this summer should Spurs fail to qualify for the Champions League. I worry that the challenge of improving in four or five different areas while also replacing Kane might be too difficult to accomplish in just one window.
