Alasdair Gold reveals one Spurs star may have played with injury against Fulham

Alasdair Gold has revealed that James Maddison may not have been 100 per cent fit for Tottenham’s clash against Fulham.

After Spurs’ embarrassing 3-0 loss at Craven Cottage, there has been a mini-inquest into the performance by the supporters and the media.

Almost none of the Tottenham players have been spared from criticism for their disappointing showing, with Maddison also coming under some scrutiny after delivering an uncharacteristically lacklustre display.

Spurs have often relied on the former Leicester City man to be their main creative fulcrum this season and when he has an off-day, as he did on Saturday, the team unsurprisingly struggles to fashion opportunities.

The likes of Owen Hargreaves accused the 27-year-old of being a bit too careless in possession, especially when he dropped deep to get on the ball (Premier League Productions – 18/03/24 at 5:20 pm).

James Maddison had a knock at Spurs this week

Gold has now offered an explanation for Maddison’s flat performance, revealing that the midfielder was nursing an injury in the week leading up to the game.

The journalist said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast about the England international: “He had a little problem in the week as well. I think he had a little bit of an ankle issue in the week from what I understand. Not enough to keep him out, but maybe that played a part, I don’t know.”

I think Postecoglou and his staff will just write the game off as a bad day at the office but they will expect a reaction from the players when they take on Luton after the international break.

The likes of Maddison and Romero are seasoned professionals and they will be keen to show everyone that the game was just a blip.
