Alasdair Gold claims Fabio Paratici pushed for Spurs to appoint 49-year-old

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Fabio Paratici was in favour of replacing Antonio Conte with Thomas Tuchel.

Spurs confirmed on Sunday evening that they had parted ways with Conte, with Cristian Stellini taking charge on an interim basis until the end of the season.

Over the last few weeks, one of the names that had been mooted as a potential replacement for Conte is Tuchel (The Athletic) but the German is no longer on the market, having replaced Julian Nagelsmann at Bayern Munich last week.

The Evening Standard reported on Thursday that Bayern’s appointment of Tuchel came as a blow to Spurs, who were considering the German as an option to take over at N17.

This was also backed up by Kicker journalist, Georg Hozlner, who revealed on Saturday that the former Chelsea boss was set to meet with Tottenham at Hotspur Way on Tuesday to discuss the managerial vacancy.

He explained that Tuchel decided to call off the meeting as Bayern offered him the job immediately.

Gold has now suggested that it was Paratici who was pushing Tuchel’s case at Spurs, adding that Daniel Levy’s wishlist would look quite different to the Italian’s.

The journalist said on his YouTube channel: “I know that there were some attempts to put the feelers out to [Thomas] Tuchel and his camp, which I understand were really pushed quite heavily by Paratici.

“He likes Tuchel, he would have been one option on his list. I do think a Paratici list, and a Daniel Levy list would look quite different. Tuchel was definitely one that Paratici liked.”

The one concerning thing about Paratici potentially getting the final say regarding the club’s next managerial appointment is the fact that the names that the Italian has put forward so far have been quite underwhelming.

It was the 50-year-old who almost gave the jobs to Gennaro Gattuso and Paulo Fonseca back in 2021 before eventually deciding to appoint Nuno Espirito Santo.
