Alasdair Gold reveals Spurs are monitoring 22-year-old ahead of potential move

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed on The Last Word On Spurs podcast (as relayed by ThisisFutbol), Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to monitor Juventus defender Merih Demiral.

Demiral was reportedly on Tottenham’s radar during the summer transfer window but the young defender ended up remaining with the Italian champions.

The Turkish international has not been able to get a regular run of games under his belt at Juve this season, having made just 10 appearances so far in all competitions (transfermarkt.com).

Fanatik reported earlier this week that Spurs could reignite their interest in Demiral, who is keen to play regular football ahead of the Euros in the summer.

However, Goal.com have suggested that the Serie A giants have no intention of letting the 22-year-old leave this month and will only assess his situation at the end of the season.

Gold, who is a reliable source on all things Tottenham, believes that the Lilywhites are continuing to monitor Demiral’s situation closely and suggested that a move could still be on the cards.

The journalist revealed that signing a centre-back is a priority for Jose Mourinho this month and that Spurs have also not given up hope of landing Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar.

Spurs Web Opinion

As talented as Demiral is, Juve are likely to demand a big fee for him and singing him would come with a significant amount of risk, given that he is still relatively unproven at the top level. We ideally need an experienced central defender who could slot into the team straight away and who the likes of Rodon and Tanganga can learn from.
