Alasdair Gold reveals Spurs have completed deal to sign 19-year-old

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has now revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have agreed on a deal to sign goalkeeper Josh Keeley from Ireland Premier Division side St Patrick’s Athletic.

Spurs have certainly had an extremely busy start to summer, with the club announcing the captures of Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster on free transfers even before the transfer window officially opened.

On Tuesday, reports emerged (The Times) that the North London club had agreed on a fee of £25m with Brighton for the transfer of Yves Bissouma.

The news of the Mali international’s arrival has certainly excited the Spurs fan base but it turns out that the Lilywhites have not just been busy strengthening their first-team but have also made an addition to their academy ranks.

Pundit Arena were the first to report last month that Spurs held an interest in Keeley, who is considered the most promising goalkeeping prospect in Ireland.

Gold has now revealed that Spurs have completed a deal to sign the Ireland Under-19 international, who will join the club’s academy set-up.

The journalist explained that Tottenham have made a move for the teenage shot-stopper after releasing five goalkeepers across various levels in recent weeks.

Spurs Web Opinion

I did expect Spurs to move for the young, up-and-coming goalkeeper this summer. Not only will Conte and Paratici view Keeley as a potential third choice behind Lloris and Forster, but they might also see the 19-year-old as someone who can eventually take over from Hugo a few years down the line.
