Alasdair Gold reveals Spurs have ‘kept an eye’ on striker for the past two years

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur were interested in Victor Osimhen even before he joined Napoli two years ago.

Osimhen has evolved into one of Serie A’s most prolific marksmen since moving to Naples from Lille in 2020.

The Nigerian international has enjoyed a fantastic 2021/22 campaign, with 18 goals and six assists to his name across all competitions for the Serie A club (Transfermarkt).

Napoli reportedly rejected an offer of around €100m (£83.3m) from Newcastle United for the 23-year-old during the January transfer window (Corriere dello Sport via Football Italia).

According to The Mirror, Conte wants to sign a big-name striker this summer to supplement Harry Kane.

Alasdair Gold reported on Football.London last week that Osimhen is one of six strikers on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

The journalist has now expanded on the same, explaining that the North Londoners have been eyeing the striker since his Lille days.

Gold said on his YouTube channel (as relayed by ThisisFutbol): “I know they like Victor Osimhen from Napoli. I know they liked him when he was at Lille. Obviously, he’s gone to Napoli and he’s done very well there. [They’ve] kept an eye on him, I think he’s got 18 goals for Napoli.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think there is any chance that Osimhen will come to Spurs. Although he has played out wide, the Nigerian is more of an out-and-out number nine, which means he knows he will have to play second fiddle to Kane. I expect Tottenham to target a versatile striker in Gabriel Jesus’ mould, who can play across the front three.
