Alasdair Gold reveals Spurs have the option to extend 23-year-old’s contract by one year

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have the option to extend Ryan Sessegnon’s contract by one year.

Sessegnon has been plagued with constant injury problems right from the time he joined Tottenham back in 2019 in a £25m deal.

Just when the 23-year-old had worked hard to return to fitness from the hamstring operation he had to have on his left leg during pre-season, he suffered the same injury on the right side last month and has gone under the knife once again.

It has been reported that the young full-back now faces a lengthy period on the sidelines and is not expected to play again this season (Football Insider).

Tottenham can extend Ryan Sessegnon’s contract

That raises the possibility that Sessegnon might have already played his final game for Spurs and Gold has now explained that the club face a big decision regarding the former Fulham man.

He states that as things stand, the left-back will be a free agent this summer unless Tottenham take up the option to extend his deal by another 12 months.

Should they decide against doing so over the coming months, Sessegnon will leave Hotspur Way as a free agent at the end of this season.

I do not see why Tottenham would decide against activating the option. Even if they only get a few million for the 23-year-od in the summer, that would still be better than allowing him to leave for free.

I see Spurs activating the extension and then loaning Sessegnon out with an obligation to buy in January if he makes a certain number of appearances.
