Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest from Football London have revealed that Giovani Lo Celso will now join La Liga club, Villarreal, on loan for the 2022/23 season.
The report claims that Lo Celso is ‘on his way’ to Villarreal and the deal will include an option to buy for a permanent deal, although a figure is not mentioned.
Lo Celso spent the second half of last season on loan with the Yellow Submarine and impressed during the club’s run to the Champions League semi-finals.
However, since returning to Spurs, he was left out of Antonio Conte’s pre-season plans and did not feature in the squad that faced Southampton on opening day.
This comes after journalist Matteo Moretto reported that Villarreal could sign Giovani Lo Celso on a loan deal without any kind of purchase option this summer. Sky Sport Italia also reported concerns that La Liga financial fair play rules could block a transfer.
However, it appears Lo Celso is now close to officially joining the Spanish club on loan.
Spurs Web Opinion:
This is a great deal for all involved, I just hope that the option to buy is set at around £15m-£20m as I feel that would be a generous valuation of Lo Celso in the current market for Villarreal.
