Alasdair Gold reveals Spurs set to hold talks after drafting manager shortlist

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham have now established a shortlist of potential candidates to be the club’s next head coach and will now hold talks ahead of confirming an appointment.

Some sources have suggested that Daniel Levy is set to favour experience over youthful exuberance when appointing a permanent replacement for Jose Mourinho.

However, Gold has now claimed that the age of the next Spurs boss is not important for the Spurs chairman, whose main concern is to ensure that the newcomer is progressive, attack-minded, favours possession-based football and, most importantly, fits into the club’s culture.

The journalist explains that Tottenham initially drew up a long list of candidates and after assessing how each manager fitted the profile they are after, have now narrowed it down to just a few.

The likes of Simone Inzaghi, Antonio Conte, Maurizio Sarri, Gian Piero Gasperini and Massimiliano Allegri are not believed to have made the short list.

Gold reveals that Brendan Rodgers remains one of the club’s preferred choices despite ruling himself out of contention for the role while Graham Potter also ranks fairly high on the list, with the Brighton boss thought to have many admirers among the Spurs squad.

He adds that Roberto Martinez also has admirers at Spurs even though his spell at Everton was not a success while the North London club also continue to keep tabs on Scott Parker.

Finally, Gold asserts that some of the names on the club’s shortlist will remain unknown, with Spurs keen to keep their cards close to their chest.
