Alasdair Gold reveals the high expectations club have for teenager

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that many within the Tottenham Hotspur academy expect Dane Scarlett to go right to the very top of the game in the future.

Scarlett has been in prolific form for the Under-18s and Under-23s so far this season and the youngster was rewarded with his first senior appearance in Tottenham’s 4-0 win over Ludogorets in the Europa League back in November.

The teenager came on in added time against West Brom in Spurs’ 2-0 win on Sunday and by doing so became the youngest player to ever pull on the famous Lilywhite shirt in the Premier League.

Mourinho admitted after the game that he expects big things from Scarlett in the future and that he wanted to be the one who handed the 16-year-old his top flight debut.

Gold has now revealed that the coaches in the Spurs academy share Mourinho’s excitement about the youngster and believe that he has a higher ceiling than all strikers at the club other than Harry Kane.

The journalist also added that Alfie Devine has also won many admirers at Spurs since joining from Wigan Athletic in the summer.

Given that both Scarlett and Devine seem to be rated higher than the likes of Harvey White and Dennis Cirkin, I would not be surprised to see both 16-year-olds to be sent out on loan next season in order to fast-track their development.
