Alasdair Gold reveals three positions Spurs could look to strengthen in January

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham could go after a right-wing-back, a left-centre-back and a centre-forward when the transfer window opens in January.

Tottenham have been linked with a whole host of players since Antonio Conte’s arrival at the club at the start of November.

However, the Italian has played down talks of signings and said at the start of December that he had asked the Spurs hierarchy for more time to assess his squad.

Gold has now revealed the Tottenham head coach is yet to have a follow-up meeting with the managing director of football Fabio Paratici to discuss potential transfer targets.

The journalist added that the 52-yer-old wants to make sure he does not move on players who could prove to be valuable to the squad going forward.

Finally, Gold adds that the ‘feeling within the club’ at the moment is that Spurs could move on Matt Doherty and replace him with another right-wing-back, while also making moves for backup to Harry Kane and a left-centre-back to compete with Ben Davies.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do understand Conte’s reluctance to jettison players without properly evaluating them as the likes of Harry Winks, Dele Alli and Steven Bergwijn have all shown over recent weeks that they can be useful squad options.

The three positions that Gold has listed is the exact three that I would have thought is a priority for Spurs, with a left-centre-back and a number nine arguably being more urgent needs than a right-wing-back.
