Despite Dejan Kulusevski casting some doubt over his future at Tottenham, Alasdair Gold has told Football.London that the North London club are expected to take up the option to sign him permanently.
Dejan Kulusevski has not managed to live up to the high standards he set for himself last season, having managed just two goals to go with his eight assists across all competitions in 2022-23 (Transfermarkt).
The winger’s loan spell runs out this summer and the Lilywhites have the option to make the deal permanent for £30.4m (Fabrizio Romano).
Some Italian outlets, including CalcioMercatoWeb, have reported over recent weeks that Tottenham are not expected to take up the option since they have been unconvinced by the 23-year-old’s displays.
The publication added that the Swede could return to Juventus this summer before being loaned out to AC Milan.
When asked about his plans, the winger told The Daily Mail on Monday that he is not aware of what Tottenham have decided and remarked that he is yet to have a conversation with the club about his future.
Despite Kulusevski’s statement, Gold has now said that Spurs ‘fully expect’ to take up the option to buy the former Atalanta man.
The journalist explained the decision has already been made by the Tottenham hierarchy, which is why they have used the winger to market their pre-season tour to Thailand this summer.
Spurs Web Opinion
It would be a no-brainer for Spurs to take up the option as despite his underwhelming season, Kulusevski is worth well in excess of £30m.
So, as long as the winger is open to the move, I have no doubt that Tottenham will buy him permanently.
