Alasdair Gold reveals Tottenham are keeping tabs on 24-year-old Ligue 1 star

Tottenham are monitoring the status of Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta after taking note of his impressive displays for the Ligue 1 side, according to Football.London.

Spurs are expected to continue revamping their squad this summer having already secured the free transfers of Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster this summer.

Antonio Conte, working alongside managing director Fabio Paratici, has requested as many as six new signings (Telegraph) as he prepares his side ahead of the new campaign.

In particular, the Italian coach has pinpointed the midfield as an area that needs improving with the use of the transfer market (Sky Sports).

And Football.London has now claimed Spurs are looking in the direction of Paqueta to address the query, and are interested in securing a transfer this summer.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a positive season for Lyon despite their mid-table finish, putting his versatility to good use with 11 goals and seven assists (Transfermarkt).

Tottenham are not alone in the pursuit, though, with the same report noting that Newcastle remain interested in Paqueta after they attempted to sign him in the January transfer window.

Spurs Web Opinion

Paqueta would be a solid acquisition for Tottenham if they are able to get a deal over the line and he would definitely improve the current depth in midfield.

It remains to be seen how much Lyon would demand in terms of an asking price, but given he has three years left on his current deal suggests it would be a pretty high figure.
