Alasdair Gold reveals Tottenham’s ‘main hurdle’ in signing Alessandro Bastoni

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that the main hurdle Tottenham face in their pursuit of Alessandro Bastoni is Inter Milan’s unwillingness to sell the centre-back for anything short of a substantial offer.

Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for Bastoni over recent days, with TuttoMercatoWeb reporting over the weekend that the North Londoners could swoop for the Italy international at ‘any time’.

The report suggested that the 23-year-old’s sale would allow Inter to ‘breathe’ and reinvest the money into Simone Inzaghi’s transfer targets.

Gold has now said that Conte and Paratici are both big fans of Bastoni and believe the Italian would complement Romero’s strength and aggression by adding more composure and technical quality to the Spurs backline.

The journalist explains that despite suggestions of the 23-year-old being keen on a reunion with Conte, Inter are reluctant to sell the defender for anything under £51m.

Gold adds that Spurs will be hoping that the Nerazzurri’s needs for transfer funds, amidst their interest in Torino’s Gleison Bremer, will help them push through a deal for Bastoni.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs are on the verge of securing Forster and Perisic on free transfers, and Djed Spence (who seems like our top target for right wing-back) is not likely to prove too expensive.

So, the club can use the entirety of their transfer budget on signing a left centre-back, a midfielder and a versatile forward. So, one would not expect the club to be put off by Inter’s £51m asking price for Bastoni.
