Alasdair Gold reveals update on Tottenham pursuit of Bastoni and Gvardiol

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have failed to make any progress in their pursuit of Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni.

Reports from Italy over recent days (Corriere dello Sport via TuttoMercatoWeb – 02/06/22) have indicated that Antonio Conte’s efforts to persuade Bastoni to join him at Tottenham have had no effect on the centre-back.

The 23-year-old is not said to be attracted by the prospect of playing in the Premier League.

Gold has now revealed that there has been no movement on the transfer over recent days since Bastoni is on international duty with Italy.

The journalist claims that the defender is yet to be convinced that this summer is the right time for him to leave the San Siro.

Gold states that Inter do need to cash in on one of their big-name players to balance their books, but the question for the moment is how much patience Spurs will show.

Tottenham are also said to have their eye on RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol but Gold says that the 20-year-old could prove even more difficult to sign than Bastoni as he is happy at the Red Bull Arena and contracted to the club until 2026.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Tottenham will wait too much longer for Bastoni to change his mind as Conte will be keen to bring his main additions in before the start of pre-season. I would not be surprised if Paratici turns his attention to other options for the left centre-back role over the coming days and weeks.
