Alasdair Gold reveals what he has heard about Qatari investment in Tottenham

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham have denied they have held any talks with Qatar Sports Investments regarding their minority interest in the club but the journalist added that such a response is to be expected.

CBS Sports revealed on Sunday that Qatar Sports Investments, who own Paris Saint-Germain, had held talks with Tottenham regarding buying a minority stake in the club.

The report revealed that QSI chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi met with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy earlier this week in London for exploratory talks, with a ‘possible investment’ thought to be discussed between the parties.

The publication revealed that the Spurs hierarchy has denied holding any discussions regarding the club’s equity but asserted that they had ‘seen indisputable evidence’ that QSI did indeed meet with Levy this week.

Gold has now taken to social media to back up CBS’ claim regarding Tottenham’s response to the news. The journalist revealed that he has heard from the North London club that there is ‘no truth’ to the reports of QSI’s interest in Spurs.

However, Gold explained that it would be in Tottenham’s interest to deny such talks at this stage as it is possible that the preliminary discussions between the parties might not lead anywhere.

Investments of this level will usually involve many rounds of negotiations and will always progress very slowly if they progress at all. So just because QSI held exploratory talks with Spurs is not cause for excitement and Levy would have likely held discussions with several interested parties over the last couple of years.
