Alasdair Gold reveals what he’s heard about Conte’s feelings on January window

According to Alasdair Gold, Antonio Conte is relatively content about the business that Tottenham did during the January transfer window.

During the last few months, the Tottenham boss has made no secret of the fact that the club need quality additions in order to close the gap with the best sides in the Premier League (Sky Sports).

However, Spurs only managed to bring two new faces through the door in January in the form of Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancour.

According to reports (The Athletic), Conte has been a long-term admirer of Kulusevski and previously tried to take the Swede to Inter Milan two years ago.

There was also a clear-out at Spurs in January, with Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Bryan Gil heading out on loans to Lyon, Villareal and Valencia respectively.

Dele Alli’s seven-year spell at Tottenham also came to an end as the midfielder sealed a deadline day move to Everton.

When asked what Conte thought about Spurs’ business in the window on a Q&A on Football.London, Gold responded: “The indications from those around him are that he is content enough with what’s been done, in terms of moving on the players he doesn’t want and bringing in a couple of new faces.

“All managers always want more and he will be no different in that respect. More work needs to happen in the summer but first there’s plenty of football to be played and where Spurs find themselves come the end of May could play a big part in what they can do in that window.”

Spurs Web Opinion

One has to analyse Tottenham’s transfer window in the context of what our rivals did.

The fact that the likes of Arsenal and Man Utd struggled to make any signings shows how hard it was to bring the right players during January, particularly under the current economic climate.

I am happy that Spurs have seemingly decided to wait and go for their primary targets in the summer rather than blow big money on less-than-ideal signings in January.
