Alasdair Gold reveals what he’s heard about Spurs double bid for Maddison and Barnes

Alasdair Gold says his sources at Tottenham have denied reports that the club have submitted an offer to sign Leicester City duo James Maddison and Harvey Barnes.

We relayed a report from The Daily Mail yesterday, which suggested that Spurs had launched an opening bid for the duo, who are expected to leave Leicester this summer following their relegation.

The publication stated that Tottenham’s combined offer for Maddison and Barnes was worth in excess of £50m but the Foxes are expected to reject the offer.

This update came on the back of a report from The Daily Star on 10 June, which asserted that Tottenham had launched a £40m offer for Maddison.

Spurs have denied Maddison and Barnes double bid

Gold has now revealed via Football.London that Spurs do hold a ‘strong interest’ in the two Foxes stars.

However, he made it clear that his club sources have insisted that talk of a bid for either player is premature.

I suspect that Tottenham would be prioritising a move for Maddison over Barnes at the moment since an attacking midfielder is a much bigger priority for the club than another wide player.

The negotiations will be made a lot more complex by lumping both players together.
