Alasdair Gold reveals what Lloris comments may mean for Spurs summer plans

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has claimed that the comments Hugo Lloris made about his future this week could be a sign that Tottenham are planning on making wholesale changes to their squad this summer.

Lloris’ future continues to be one of the main talking points ahead of the summer transfer window, with the Tottenham captain having just 12 months left on his current contract.

While some sources have claimed that the Frenchman is likely to sign an extension after holding talks with Daniel Levy, the fact that Spurs continue to be linked with various goalkeepers potentially points to a different reality.

Lloris did nothing to dampen the speculation when he refused to speak about his future on Monday, insisting that he will only talk about it when the European Championships are over.

Gold suggested that the goalkeeper’s comments might be a hint regarding Tottenham’s plans but admitted that he expects Lloris to stay at the club.

When asked about the Spurs number one’s comments, the journalist responded: “Partly he’s just doing the right thing in pushing all club talk off until after the tournament, drawing a line in the sand so he won’t get many more questions about it.

“On the other hand, with his words and those of Kane, Aurier and Sissoko, it shows the players know the club are looking to change things up this summer.

“I’d be surprised if Lloris moves on just yet, purely because it would cost so much to bring in some of even equal standard to replace him. He also could be waiting to see who the new manager is.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that the squad needs strengthening in several areas and that we do not have much money to throw around, the last thing we need is to lose Lloris and spend £30m+ on a replacement.  Whoever we appoint as the new manager, I expect Lloris to be handed a new contract if he wants to stay.
