The situation of Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham Hotspur was discussed during Paulo Fonseca’s talks with the club, Alasdair Gold has revealed.
As part of his column for Football.London, Gold has claimed that Fonseca was told Kane would be going nowhere this summer and would have been part of his Tottenham squad had he been appointed.
The Evening Standard claimed earlier today that Manchester City had made a £100million bid for the forward, plus the option of players from Pep Guardiola’s squad in exchange.
Conflicting reports emerged when the Manchester Evening News played down speculation of an offer by suggesting that sourced from both clubs stressed there has been no official approach from the Premier League champions.
Fonseca was said to have been left ‘stunned’ after Tottenham decided to pull the plug in his appointment with talks having been at such an advanced stage (BBC).
Tottenham are right to stress that Kane’s future lies at the club, they cannot be seen to giving any power to the player or any potential interested party with the side in need of such a painful rebuild.
If Levy has any ambition to restore the squad to the quality we had three years ago, he must dig in his heels and keep Kane next season.
