Alasdair Gold reveals when Spurs are expected to announce Forster’s signing

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are not expected to announce the signing of Fraser Forster until the start of July.

On Tuesday, Spurs announced Ivan Perisic as their first signing of the summer on a free transfer.

The Croat represents a major coup for the North Londoners, having shone at left wing-back in Antonio Conte’s system at Inter Milan.

Forster is another player who is available on a free transfer, with the goalkeeper’s current deal with Southampton running out at the end of June.

Football Insider reported last week that Spurs have ‘wrapped’ up the signing of the 34-year-old, who is expected to pen a two-year deal with the club.

The report claimed that the England international had already completed his medical and agreed to take wage cut on the £100,000-a-week that he is earning with the Saints.

However, Gold has now revealed on his YouTube Channel (starting at 24:36) that he has been told by people who are well connected at Tottenham that they would be surprised if Forster’s signing is announced in June.

The journalist explained that players are allowed to talk to other Premier League clubs when they enter the final month of their contracts, and so, there is nothing in the letter of the law that would prevent Spurs from announcing Forster’s capture this month.

However, he added that the feeling around the club is that the goalkeeper’s signing will only be confirmed in July.

If Spurs have wrapped up the deal for Forster, as reports suggest, and the rules do not prohibit them from announcing the deal in June, then it is quite confusing why the club will wait until July to announce the deal. Perhaps that has something to do with a clause in Forster’s Southampton contract, potentially involving loyalty bonuses.
