Alasdair Gold reveals whether Spurs are likely to sign a striker this summer

Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold has claimed that Tottenham could enter the market for an experienced striker this summer if they are not able to snap up Carlos Vinicius.

Vinicius’ loan spell at Spurs has not gone as well as he would have hoped for, with the striker struggling to get a run of matches under his belt.

Despite his lack of game time, the Brazilian has shown that he knows where the back of the net is, having scored on 10 occasions in all competitions.

Tottenham have the option to make Vinicius’ loan deal from Benfica permanent at the end of the season for £36m.

However, Sky Sports reported last week that the North Londoners have decided against taking up the option and are set to enter the market for a suitable backup to Harry Kane.

Some sources have claimed that Jose Mourinho might look to take Vinicius to Roma while Wolves have also shown interest in signing the 26-year-old.

Gold has not ruled out Spurs potentially signing Vinicius on another loan deal this summer but insisted that the club will look for other options if they are not able to get a deal done cheaply.

The journalist said: “I think if they don’t agree a cheaper deal for Vinicius or another loan deal for him, then they will look to bring another experienced striker in.

“(Dane) Scarlett will get minutes here and there and (Troy) Parrott will likely get another loan.

“Of course as I said below, the new manager might come in and decide that both are ready, but at 17 and 19, it seems a gamble.”
