Alasdair Gold says 26-year-old has been open to leaving Spurs for a while

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Davinson Sanchez has been open to leaving Tottenham Hotspur for a while and suggested that the centre-back will finally get his wish in the summer.

Sanchez is now into his sixth season at Tottenham since arriving from Ajax back in 2017 but the Colombian has largely been a bit-part player for more than two years now.

El Futbolero reported last week that Sanchez has endured a ‘hard time’ at Spurs since Antonio Conte and his coaching staff arrived at the club 16 months ago.

The report added that Cristian Romero has ‘erased’ any chances he had of getting minutes and that ‘everything indicates’ the centre-back is set to leave Spurs at the end of the season, with the North London club thought to value him at $25m (£20.7m).

Gold is in no doubt that Tottenham and Sanchez will part ways at the end of the current season.

The journalist has now said on his YouTube channel about the centre-back: “I know that he’s wanting to head off. He’s been open to a move in some of the recent windows.

“One in particular, during the pandemic, he really did kind of want to get back to his family and everyone.

“He’s not getting the starts. I think he’s made six Premier League starts this season, so from his point of view, he wants to go somewhere and play regularly as well.

“I guess maybe is it about Spurs and their financial demands? I don’t know. I feel like we’re coming to a summer where it’s almost like a natural parting of ways.”

Despite his shortcomings as a defender, Sanchez has clearly been a fantastic team man, not complaining at being left out of the side and showing full commitment and effort when he has been asked to step in.

That is why Conte has valued the 26-year-old as a squad player and has decided to keep him around. However, with the Colombian entering the final 12 months of his contract in June, it is now pretty clear that his time at the club is up.
