Alasdair Gold says injured Spurs player should return this week for Bournemouth clash

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Oliver Skipp picked up a knock ahead of Tottenham’s trip to the Amex Stadium, which is why the midfielder sat out the fixture.

Spurs were already without long-term absentees, Micky van de Ven, Ivan Perisic, Manor Solomon, James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Ryan Sessegnon, with Cristian Romero being added to that list this week, while Yves Bissouma is still serving his suspension.

Skipp’s name was also absent from Tottenham’s matchday squad on Thursday, which meant that Ange Postecoglou had to bring Pierre-Emile Hobjerg into the starting lineup to partner Pape Matar Sarr.

Oliver Skipp should return in time for Bournemouth

Gold has now explained that the Spurs academy graduate had picked up a knock, which is why he did not make the trip to the South Coast.

The journalist also revealed that it is not a serious issue and that Skipp is expected to be fit to face Bournemouth on Sunday.

However, one player who will not be available against the Cherries is Dejan Kulusevski, with the Swede set to serve a one-match suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in the 4-2 loss against Brighton.

Having Skipp and Sarr in the middle would certainly give us a lot more energy, which is crucial to the way Postecoglou wants the side to counter-press. Despite all of Hojbjerg’s positive attributes, he simply does not have the athleticism and sharpness required for Ange’s system.
