Alasdair Gold says Paratici considers 24-year-old Spurs target to be ‘a superstar’

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Fabio Paratici holds Weston McKennie is high regard, with the Spurs managing director said to view the midfielder as a potential ‘superstar’.

It was Paratici who took McKennie from Schalke to Juventus during his time at the Turin club and reports in the Italian press over recent months have backed the 50-year-old to try to reunite with the midfielder at Spurs (TuttoMercatoWeb).

The Italian raided his former club for Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski during the January of this year, with both players proving to be astute acquisitions, and it remains to be seen whether he will repeat the trick with the USA international.

Tuttosport claimed earlier this week that Spurs’ contacts with McKennie’s entourage ‘are increasing through intermediaries’ ahead of the January transfer window.

Gold has now said that it would not come as a surprise if Tottenham poached the 24-year-old in January, explaining that Paratici constantly pushes the American’s case.

The journalist said on his YouTube channel: “You’ll have heard me say this way back in videos a year ago, Fabio Paratici adores Weston McKennie. He brought him to Juventus from Schalke. Honestly, he thinks he’s a superstar”

“I wouldn’t rule out Tottenham continuing to look at him. He’s a good player, got a great engine. Box to box, very versatile as well. Keep an eye on that one is probably the best thing I’d say about that. Paratici will keep pushing his merits constantly.”

At this point, the McKennie to Spurs move seems like the most obvious transfer of the January window.  Not only does Paratici have a good relationship with the Juve hierarchy, who are seemingly looking to cash in on McKennie, but the 24-year-old would also be a very good fit for Conte’s style of play. Having said that, we know that Paratici identifies multiple targets for each position and so, Tottenham could throw a curveball in January.
