Alasdair Gold says Spurs have now made a decision on young Jamie Donley

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has said that Tottenham Hotspur are expected to turn down any loan offers for Jamie Donley during this month’s transfer window.

While many of Tottenham’s youngsters have been outstanding for the Under-21s this season, Donley has arguably been the pick of the bunch so far.

The versatile forward, who can operate as a number nine, a second striker or as an attacking midfielder, has managed six goals and 12 assists in 12 matches across Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy (Transfermarkt).

The 19-year-old has been rewarded with three senior appearances so far this season, the latest of which came in Tottenham’s FA Cup third-round win over Burnley on Friday.

No plans to loan out Jamie Donley

Gold has now revealed that Donley is attracting quite a bit of interest from the Championship, with several clubs from the second tier said to be keen on signing the attacker in a temporary deal this month.

However, he explains that Tottenham are happy for the 19-year-old to stay at Hotspur Way as they want him to continue playing for the Under-21s and be in and around Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

The journalist adds that while the likes of Jude Soonsup-Bell, Will Lankshear and Yago Santiago are expected to follow goalkeeper Josh Keeley (who joined Barnet) out on loan, Donley is set to remain at Spurs.

If Tottenham want to keep hold of Donley, that is a clear sign that Postecoglou feels the youngster is potentially ready to make a difference for the senior side in case there are a few more injuries.

Perhaps, the Aussie coach just wants to be safe, especially with Son set to miss a month of football. However, one cannot help but feel that getting regular competitive minutes in the Championship would do wonders for Donely’s development.
