Alasdair Gold says young Spurs forward has ‘wowed’ Postecoglou in training

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Ange Postecoglou and his coaching staff have been awestruck by Alejo Veliz since the striker returned to full fitness.

Veliz is seen as one of the most exciting young attacking prospects in Argentine football, with the teenager finding the back of the net 11 times in 23 league appearances for Rosario Central this season prior to his move to the Lilywhites in the summer.

According to various sources, Spurs saw off competition from several European sides to land the centre-forward this summer (Fabrizio Romano – Here We Go Podcast).

However, Tottenham see the teenager as one for the future rather than as a finished product, with Postecoglou revealing back in August that the youngster might not get too many minutes during the first part of the campaign (Football.London).

Is Alejo Veliz being fast-tracked at Spurs?

Spurs’ growing injury list might mean that Veliz might end up having an important role to play over the coming weeks, and Gold has now reported that the youngster has certainly caught the eye in training.

The journalist said on the Gold and Guest podcast: “I think that’s a testament to Veliz because from what I understand, he has come into those training sessions after coming back from the injury he arrived with and he’s absolutely wowed them.

“He’s done really good work in training, and apparently his finishing, especially, is just phenomenal. I know the Premier League is a leap, but I do think that maybe he’ll, especially with that big physique, be ready for the Premier League.

“I mean he is a unit, having stood at pitch-side near and kind of walked by, he is a big lad, he’s just towering over players and coaches. Yeah, I think he’s one of those where maybe we see him get a minute or two and he surprises everyone and comes up with it.”

We know that Postecoglou is not hesitant to trust younger players if they show that they are good enough in training. So, Veliz and Gil both have a great chance to prove themselves over the coming weeks due to the current injury crisis at Spurs.
