It may have been apparent for some time, but Ryan Sessegnon’s Tottenham career may finally have to come to an end in the summer. That’s the opinion of Alasdair Gold, who suggests the left-back needs to get a regular run of football, and won’t get that at Spurs.
Sessegnon has been with Tottenham since 2019, having joined from Fulham with so much promise surrounding his future. He has made just 57 appearances over four-and-a-half years for the Lilywhites (Transfermarkt).
Granted, some of that time was spent on loan at Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, but the main issue has been Sessegnon’s injury record.
After recovering from a hamstring strain that kept him out of action for 11 months, Sessegnon returned to the field for Ange Postecoglou‘s side last month, but has been out injured again ever since.
Sessegnon was one of a number of players that Tottenham were believed to be open to letting go during the January transfer window (Independent), but the 23-year-old stayed put.

Sessegnon has to leave for the good of his own career
In the latest episode of The Last Word on Spurs, Alasdair Gold shared what he believes is the best route for success now for Sessegnon, and admitted that the player’s future probably lies away from Tottenham now.
Gold said: “I saw he was in the video doing gym work this week. It’s a difficult one. I asked Ange about him the other day. Essentially he just had I suppose what you’d expect from someone who’s just played their first game in 11 months, he just had some aches and pains and little issues that need dealing with.
“It’s a really difficult one because he’s kind of a guy that needs a run of football but I don’t think he’s going to get it, that’s the problem. I think he’s just going to have to wait until the summer and head somewhere, whether it’s loan or permanent, but he’s not going to get it at Spurs right now.”
Spurs Web Opinion
With Destiny Udogie playing as well as he is, there’s simply no chance of Sessegnon ever getting a look-in now at Spurs. I assume Postecoglou would rather play Ben Davies, and even an out-of-position Emerson Royal, than call on Sessegnon. He has to leave.
