Alasdair Gold thinks Spurs may be nervous about one star on international duty

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has predicted that Ange Postescoglou will be watching nervously and hoping Rodrigo Bentancur returns unscathed from the international break.

Bentancur has returned to the Uruguay set-up for the first time since last year’s World Cup, with the South American nation set to play qualifiers against Argentina and Bolivia.

The midfielder only returned to action a few weeks ago after spending eight weeks on the sidelines and for the first time since his ACL injury back in February, his fitness and medical situation is out of Tottenham’s control.

Spurs will hope Uruguay take it easy on Bentancur

Gold explains that the Lilywhites have taken things extremely carefully with Bentancur’s recovery, even though the 26-year-old has been knocking on Postecoglou’s door for a while.

The journalist adds that the Spurs medical team have been urging caution since the player’s body has not been exposed to strain and the physical demands of football for the best part of a year.

Since Uruguay manager Marcelo Bielsa’s high-intensity approach demands a lot from the players, just as Postecoglou’s approach, Gold adds that the Spurs boss will hope that the 68-year-old understands that the Tottenham man is not ready for 90 minutes just yet.

I am sure that the Tottenham medical team would have been in touch with Uruguay’s medical staff to appraise them on Bentanucr’s recovery.

However, Bielsa will understandably prioritise the needs of his team and with a couple of crucial games coming up for his side, he might decide that starting Bentancur is a risk worth taking.
