Alderweireld speaks on Spurs future

I’ve become frustrated in recent weeks in the amount of times I’ve had to publish ‘rumours’ from the press regarding Toby Alderweireld’s contract and future at Tottenham Hotspur.

Some of the red tops have in recent weeks and months claimed that the likes of Manchester City are preparing a £60million bid for the Belgian defender, while his agent has also been quoted in his homeland press as giving Spurs an ultimatum of give him a new contract or sell him.

Mauricio Pochettino also recently publicly stated that Alderweireld is happy at the club.  The speculation is fuelled by the fact that he has two years left to run on his existing contract, with the option of a third year said to trigger the option of a £25million release clause.

Alderweireld however is instead leaving his contract situation to his father and agent as he prefers to focus on matters on the field with the aim of bringing trophies to Tottenham Hotspur.

There’s no doubt that behind the scenes the club are busy trying to agree a new deal with Toby, I would be hugely shocked if Daniel Levy, Mauricio Pochettino and co aren’t trying their upmost.

“I am trying to focus on the pitch, trying to help the team, give my quality on the field – that’s important and the rest will come,” he told talkSPORT in an exclusive interview.

“I have my father and my agent who are sorting out that kind of thing.

“Me, I am here to play football, to win things with Spurs and to give my best for the team.

“I did that from day one and I will do it now as well.”

  1. I don’t think he’ll sign a new deal unless he is made joint top earner and he deserves that, he could earn £300,000 a week at the likes of PSG because he is good enough, he’s within the top 3 defenders in the world and is as important to club as Kane and more important than Lloris so he deserves parity at least.

  2. I Really Can’t Understand the Contractual Problem with Toby Alderweireld A World Class Player who Could get into any Team in Europe When the Likes of Barcelona Real Madrid the Big Clubs in Italy and the Premiership Come Calling that’s Proof that We have a Special Defender On our Hands a Gem In Fact, so What’s the Delay Mr Levy ? Pay Him What he Want’s and get This Bloody Mess Sorted Out

    • Loosen the purse strings Mr Levy. Toby is special give him a good contract for 5 years tie him down to the club. He is world class and give him one of the top earners pay at Spurs. If he wants to go which I don't think he does then get the big bucks for him. COYS

  3. Along with most if not all Spurs fans, I sincerely hope that the player and the club find a way in which he remains at our club. He is without doubt a great asset to the team, and would like to think he can help to achieve in the quest to win honours at the highest level. COYS.
