Alderweireld insists Liverpool clash is a big opportunity for Spurs

Tottenham needed all three points against table bottom-placed Watford on Saturday in order to restore some confidence but in the end, we were fortunate to emerge with a point.

The defence looked shaky every time the visitors went forward and if they had been more clinical, they could have bagged all three points.

The performance against the Hornets certainly doesn’t bode well for Spurs’ clash against table toppers Liverpool on Sunday.

The Reds have started the season from where they left off last campaign, with their draw against Manchester United on Sunday being the only points they have dropped in the Premier League this season.

Despite the contrasting form of both sides, Toby Alderweireld has insisted that the game is a good opportunity to turn around the club’s fortunes.

He called for the team to approach the game against Liverpool as well as this evening’s Champions League clash against Red Star Belgrade with the same attitude that they displayed in the second half on Saturday

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the Belgian said, “You can see it two ways. It’s a big opportunity for us on Tuesday. We must use that.

“Then Sunday is a big opportunity. Look, we’re a team, let’s go again. Let’s go, like that second half. Our best, it’s all we can do.”

In fairness, the players and the manager have no choice but to present a defiant attitude to the press. However, no one is stepping up and taking responsibility on the pitch. The 7-2 hammering by Bayern seems to have shattered whatever was left of our confidence and so the sooner we get a win under our belt, the better.
