Alderweireld reveals why he is confident ahead of Man City match

Tottenham take on Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League quarter final in just a matter of a few hours.

This is undoubtedly the biggest game of Tottenham’s season so far as they attempt to qualify to the semifinals of the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.

Pep Guardiola’s men come into the game as massive favourites as they go in search of the Quadruple this season.

However, Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has said that Spurs will take inspiration from the manner of their defeat to Liverpool a couple of weeks ago.

Spurs put in an accomplished performance at Anfield and looked the more likely side to win in the second half.

While the lilywhites were unfortunate to come away from the game without any points, Alderweireld said that the performance has given players the belief that they could beat anybody.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the Belgian said, “I’m confident, especially how we played in the game with Liverpool. It gives us belief.

“In one of the toughest games away, we showed we can play well, defend and create chances to kill the match.

“I think what we showed in the second half, we have to take this to the game with City. It will be a special night at the new stadium.

“It’s going to be a game of high quality, high tempo, but one we look forward to. And we have a chance, of course.”

The 30-year-old defender also raved about the quality that City have but insisted that Tottenham are capable of beating them on their day.

He added, “I know Kevin and Vinny very well of course and they have a lot of quality. I wish them the best, but we want to win.

“City just play very well, I can’t say too much about them because everyone knows how good they are, with the squad they have.

“They have a lot of quality, but on our day we can beat any team. We have to be top on top of our game to get a result, but we are going to do our best.”
