Alfie Devine opens up on conversations he had with Postecoglou at Spurs

Alfie Devine has revealed that he had a good chat with Ange Postecoglou in the summer regarding what is best for his development and that the pair agreed that he should go out on loan.

Devine has been a cut above the rest of the Tottenham players in the Under-21 set-up over the last couple of players, which has led to a clamour among a section of Spurs fans calling for him to be given first-team opportunities.

That clamour only grew when he impressed during pre-season but the North London club decided to loan the 19-year-old out to Port Vale.

The decision has worked a treat so far as the attacking midfielder has been getting regular minutes under his belt and appears to be getting better with each outing in League One.

Devine had a good pre-season chat with Postecoglou

Devine has now opened up on his interaction with Postecoglou in the summer, revealing that he is continuing to get regular feedback from the staff at Tottenham.

The youngster told The Daily Mail: “I’m loving every bit of it at the moment. Obviously, there was the manager change with Ange Postecoglou coming in and he wanted to have a look at every player.

“I had a good chat with him at the start of pre-season and the decision was made between everyone that it was probably best for me to go out on loan this season. It was the right time to go out.

“All the boys and all the staff at Vale have made me feel very welcome and I’ve really settled into the group. The staff at Tottenham are checking in all the time. I’ve had good feedback.”

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham loan out Devine to a Championship club (or perhaps even to a top-flight side in Europe) next season or if the youngster makes a straight jump to the first team. I would not be surprised if Postecoglou decides to do the latter.
