“All confirmed” – Man Utd on the verge of landing Spurs’ Portuguese target

It looks like Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are going head to head for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes is one of the most highly-rated midfielders in the world, having scored 32 goals and provided 18 assists for Sporting last season (according to Transfermarket.com).

Reports over recent days have claimed that the Lilywhites have moved ahead of Manchester United in the race for the 24-year-old (Sky Sports). It was also suggested that Fernandes has put in a transfer request in light of the recent interest from Tottenham.

However, transfer expert and Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nico Schira has now claimed that Manchester United have agreed on a deal with Sporting that will see Fernandes sign a contract worth €6M plus bonuses a year with the Red Devils.

The Portuguese international will reportedly complete his move to United after the Portuguese Super Cup on Sunday which will see Sporting take on Benfica.

Here’s what Schira tweeted:

Spurs Web Opinion

It was always likely that this deal was a smokescreen by Levy to tempt Real Betis into letting Giovani Lo Celso leave for a lower fee. We at Spurs Web believe that Lo Celso will be a much better fit for Tottenham’s system and as long as the club can get that deal over the line before the close of the transfer window, there is little to worry about.
