‘All kinds of ability’ – Aaron Lennon stunned by Spurs star’s transformation

Aaron Lennon is blown away by how much Yves Bissouma has transformed under Ange Postecoglou, with the former Tottenham winger speaking in glowing terms about the midfielder’s start to the new season.

Given the prices that midfielders like Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia have fetched this summer, it is mind-boggling to think that Tottenham signed Bissouma for just £30m from Brighton last summer on the back of the outstanding couple of seasons he had at the Amex Stadium.

To many people’s surprise, the 26-year-old struggled to get opportunities under Antonio Conte last season but he now once again looks like the player he was at the Seagulls.

The Mali international is a key reason behind the impressive start that Tottenham have made to the season, with his press resistance and ability to progress the ball higher up the pitch proving crucial for Postecoglou’s men.

On the back of Spurs’ 2-0 win at the Vitality Stadium, Lennon has showered praise on Bissouma and admitted that he is really enjoying watching his former side.

Aaron Lennon is impressed by Yves Bissouma

The 36-year-old told BBC Five Live Sport: “Also [Yves] Bissouma, a special mention for him, he’s been brilliant in the middle of the park.

“[He’s a] completely different player, like you said he didn’t get a run of games and some players need that. And also probably a manager to come in and put their arm around him and say, ‘You are that player mate’. He’s got all kinds of ability, on and off the ball, he’s been fantastic.

“But like you said, him, [James] Maddison, the new boy at the back [Micky Van de Ven] has been brilliant as well and I’m really enjoying them, I thought they were brilliant.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Bissouma has quickly become so important for Tottenham that I am already starting to fear the impact it would have on the side if he is out injured for a few weeks. There is no doubt that a midfielder of the 26-year-old’s quality would be worth more than £80m-£100m in the current market.
