All the squad numbers Tottenham Hotspur could use for new signings this summer

The summer transfer window is upon us, and Tottenham Hotspur are expected to make major moves in the market as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his squad. So, with players coming and going, it’s time to look at the squad numbers available to new signings.

It’s fair to say that Tottenham have a fairly bloated squad as it stands, but that could all change this summer.

According to Paul O’Keefe, Spurs could be ready to offload up to 12 first team players, with the likes of Fraser Forster, Giovani Lo Celso, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Rodon, Djed Spence, Sergio Regulion, Ben Davies, Emerson Royal, Tanguy Ndombele, Bryan Gil, and Manor Solomon all thought to be available.

Ange Postecoglou is believed to want at least three new signings this summer (ESPN), though there could be more. So, what squad numbers could incoming players claim?

Tottenham squad numbers available now

Tottenham currently have numbers 1, 2, 26, 31, 32, 34, and 39 available. However, there are a handful more that are due to become available next month.

Ivan Perisic and Eric Dier still technically hold the 14 and 15 shirt respectively, but the pair are leaving Spurs when their contracts expire at the end of June. Similarly, Ryan Sessegnon will vacate the number 19 shirt when he leaves on a free transfer this summer.

The number 16 shirt is set to be returned to the hanger shortly, too, as Timo Werner’s loan spell comes to an end. Whether he will come back to Spurs on a permanent basis remains to be seen.

Squad numbers that are likely to become available

Although some players do have a squad number at Spurs right now, there are some names that are very likely to leave the club this summer. We expect to see the number 3, 5, 11, 12, 18, 25, and 28 shirts become available in the near future.

Sergio Reguilon (3), Japhet Tanganga (25), and Tanguy Ndombele (28) have all been out on loan this season and appear to have no future at Spurs. The same could be said of Djed Spence (24) though a lot less has been said about his plans this summer.

Meanwhile, current first team players like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (5), Bryan Gil (11), Emerson Royal (12), and Giovani Lo Celso (18) are thought to be surplus to requirements and the players themselves are believed to be discontent with the lack of minutes they are getting.

Potential squad number changes

We would be very surprised if Guglielmo Vicario did not take the vacant number 1 shirt this summer. The Spurs keeper had no intention of taking the squad number away from Hugo Lloris previously, but with the Frenchman gone now, it would make perfect sense to give it to Vicario.

Both Micky van de Ven (37) and Destiny Udogie (38) have rather high, random numbers in the squad currently. If Reguilon and Hojbjerg do depart this summer as expected, it would make sense for Udogie to take the number 3 shirt, and van de Ven to take the number 5 shirt.

There is a chance Pedro Porro would take the number 2 shirt, too, though that was available last summer and he didn’t take it, so he may be happy with number 23.
