Son Heung-min has taken to social media to admit that it is a special moment to be made captain of Tottenham Hotspur while James Maddison and Cristian Romero have also expressed their delight in being made the South Korean’s vice-captains.
A new leadership group appears to have been formed at Spurs under Ange Postecoglou, with Harry Kane leaving the club, and with Hugo Lloris and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg expected to follow him out of the door (Daily Mail), while Eric Dier looks unlikely to have a prominent first-team role this season.
It did not come as a surprise when Son, who is now one of the longest-serving players at the club, was given the armband by Postecoglou.
The 30-year-old took to Instagram to describe it as an ‘honour of a lifetime’ and he vowed to do everything to make the supporters proud.
Meanwhile, Romero called on all of his teammates to push together in the same direction while Maddison also took to social media to admit that he cannot wait for the new campaign to get underway.
