Allardyce says Poch not under pressure to win trophies at Spurs

The loss against Chelsea on Wednesday night has effectively put Tottenham out of the running for the Premier League title. It looks like it is going to be another trophy-less season for Tottenham with the Champions League looking like their only shot at silverware.

Pochettino who is into his fifth season as Tottenham manager is yet to win any trophies during his time with the club. The Argentine even insisted before the game against Chelsea that Tottenham might not win the Premier League title for another 10 years, a comment which has left some people perplexed.

Pressure now seems to be mounting on the 46-year-old as some experts have questioned if his project at Spurs has run its course.

However, Sam Allardyce has insisted that the Tottenham manager is not under any pressure from the owners to deliver silverware.

When asked if Klopp and Pochettino will come under scrutiny if they fail to win trophies this season, Allardyce told talkSPORT, “No. I think the owners of Liverpool and Tottenham are very supportive.

“I think they would be disappointed, but they would probably say, ‘what do you need to get better?’.”

However, the 64-year-old said that the new stadium might affect the club’s ability to back Pochettino in the transfer market.

He added, “I’m not so sure about Tottenham, in terms of the money they’ll be able to find for Mauricio because of the cost of the stadium, which has to be a factor.

“But at Liverpool it might be a different story. Their funds are increasing, they’ve got money in the bank and I think they might say, ‘we’ll give you a little bit more to try and win it next season’.

“So I don’t think Klopp or Pochettino will have a problem.”
