Ally McCoist believes that Tottenham Hotspur may have made a mistake by prioritising a deal for Mathys Tel on deadline day, with the pundit explaining why he does not expect the Frenchman to be a success at N17.

Tottenham delighted with Mathys Tel capture
Tel was reportedly the subject of plenty of late interest, with some sources saying that Spurs saw off competition from the likes of Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal to secure the 19-year-old.
Tottenham technical director Johan Lange admitted that he is delighted to bring Tel to Hotspur Way. Ange Postecoglou also insisted that the Bayern starlet is a perfect fit for what Spurs were looking for.
However, McCoist does not believe that the arrival of the pacy forward will have the kind of effect that some at Spurs expect.

Ally McCoist believes Tottenham have made an error
McCoist has now claimed that Spurs needed a player to come in and make an instant impact, opining that Tel does not offer the kind of immediate fix that the side needs.
The former Rangers manager questioned why Tottenham did not pursue a more experienced and proven option over the Bayern man.
When asked what he thought of Tel’s arrival at N17, McCoist told talkSPORT: “It’s very, very unfair for us to sit and pre-judge him right now because he might come in and do well and he might be a great success.
“But he’s not the profile that you’re looking for right now because we’ve already stated the fact that a lot of Spurs’ recent signings have been younger and look as though they’re planning for the future.
“Which is fair enough but in that respect, what we would think they would get or be looking to get would be to get kind of an immediate fix and that certainly doesn’t look the case, does it?”
McCoist even asserted that the newcomer will struggle to get into Tottenham’s first-choice starting eleven. When asked if Tel starts for Spurs on the right, he responded: “No, Kulusevski’s been one of the best players this season, in the league!”

Tottenham have gone for a mixture of youth and experience
We know that one of the main tenets of Spurs’ transfer policy right now is to sign young starlets and help them develop into finished products, which is something Postecoglou appears to enjoy.
However, the club have also balanced out the signing of two youngsters in Tel and Kinsky with the addition of an experienced operator in Kevin Danso.
The Austrian international has Premier League experience under his belt and is ready to step into the Tottenham backline straight away.
