Ally McCoist predicts who will finish in top four out of Spurs and Liverpool

Ally McCoist has said that he expects Liverpool to pip Tottenham Hotspur to a top-four finish this season.

Owing to their impressive home form over the last few weeks, allied with the fact that Newcastle United have struggled to pick up results, Spurs have climbed back into the final Champions League qualification spot.

Antonio Conte’s men currently sit four points clear of Newcastle in fifth, although the Magpies have two games in hand.

The Lilywhites might also be looking over the shoulder to Liverpool in sixth place, with the Reds sitting five points behind with a game in hand.

Given their elimination from the FA Cup at the hands of Sheffield United on Wednesday, Tottenham can now afford to put their full focus on finishing in the top four and on going as far as possible in the Champions League.

However, McCoist opined that he would fancy Liverpool over Spurs if it came to a head-to-head race between the two clubs.

The pundit said on TalkSPORT (2/3 8:51 am): “You can’t put a banker on them (Tottenham), saying you fancy them to get three points against anybody.

“They lost [by] four at Leicester after beating Manchester City.

“There’s no doubt they can [finish in the top four], but if it came to head-to-head between Spurs and Liverpool, you’ve got to say you fancy Liverpool in a one-off.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is difficult to disagree with McCoist as we have not shown any sort of consistency at all since the start of October.

Our saving grace might be the fact that Liverpool have been just as inconsistent as us and look incapable of going on the sort of winning run we have been used to seeing from them over recent seasons.
