‘Already agreed’ – Club director claims Spurs player will join him eventually

Sao Paulo club director Carlos Belmonte has revealed that there is already a gentleman’s agreement in place that Lucas Moura will join the club whenever he moves back to Brazil.

The Tottenham star has been out of action for the vast majority of this season with a reoccurring injury, and it is still unknown when he will return to action for Antonio Conte.

Moura is contracted with Spurs until this summer but there is reportedly an option to extend his deal by another 12 months (Football.London).

The Daily Mail and UOL have both reported recently that Moura will leave as a free agent at the end of the season, mentioning Sao Paulo as a potential destination.

Brazilian journalist Alexander also reported recently that the Spurs man is in constant contact with his old club over a potential return.

Carlos Belmonte has revealed that he does not know when Moura will transfer back to his home country, but is confident the move will be to Sao Paulo when it finally happens.

He said (10/01/23 ESPN Brasil via SportWitness): “Lucas Moura, we’ve talked several times. When he goes back to Brazil, that’s already agreed, and we trust Lucas’ word, the first team he’s going to look for is São Paulo. And then we’re going to make the decision: is it possible? Affordable? Is it worth it?

“We don’t know when it will happen. Lucas has a huge affection for São Paulo and so do we, but it will depend on the moment. He is always on our radar, but it is no guarantee that he will come to São Paulo.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Despite the reports claiming he will leave on a free transfer, it seems much more like Daniel Levy to trigger the extension and then attempt to sell Moura for a few million in the summer.
