‘Amazing character’ – Roberts praises Spurs star for overcoming adversity in N17

Graham Roberts has lavished praise on Emerson Royal for managing to overcome adversity and turn his form around after the Brazilian delivered another impressive performance against West Ham United.

Emerson was booed off by the Spurs fans when he was substituted against Leeds United back in November, and it seemed at that point as if there was no way back for the 23-year-old at Tottenham.

It did not sit well with a section of the supporters when the club decided to hang on to the former Real Betis man, and offload Matt Doherty and Djed Spence last month to make way for Pedro Porro.

However, Emerson has silenced his critics over the last few weeks, proving that he has the attributes to play as a right wing-back.

He was one of Tottenham’s best players in their 2-0 win over West Ham United on Saturday, opening the scoring for the home side with a composed finish.

Roberts backed Emerson to be a top player for the club over the years to come. Here is what the Spurs legend tweeted after the right-back’s display against the Hammers:

Spurs Web Opinion

I was one of Emerson’s biggest critics and I am over the moon that the 23-year-old is now starting to prove me and many other Spurs fans wrong.

If he continues in the same vein, he could have a redemption arc similar to that of Moussa Sissoko’s a few years ago and become a popular figure among the fans.
