Lucas Moura has raved about Erik Lamela’s talent and admitted that the rabona which the Argentine scored last weekend did not come as a surprise to any of his Tottenham teammates.
Lamela is one of the longest-serving players at Tottenham, having been at the club since 2013, with the North London derby on Sunday being his 250th appearance for Spurs.
The midfielder has demonstrated his quality on plenty of occasions over the years but he has rarely managed to cement his place in the side for a run of games during his eight-year spell at the club.
The Argentine has suffered plenty of injuries along the way but has demonstrated once again this season how important a player he can be when he is fit.
Jose Mourinho has admitted that he loves the ‘chaotic’ nature in which Lamela plays and the midfielder’s desire to always get on the ball and impact matches.
Although the clash against Arsenal ended in disappointment for Lamela after he received his marching orders, the midfielder’s rabona finish in the first-half captured headlines worldwide.
However, Lucas revealed that the 29-year-old regularly pulls off unbelievable pieces of skill as he did on Sunday.
When asked about Lamela’s wonder goal, the Brazilian said (via Football.London): “It was a surprise for almost everyone but not us because we know him so well. He does this in the training session almost every week.
“He is an amazing player. It was the only thing he could do in this action and it was not easy.
“He has scored a goal like this in the past but in a derby is even more special.
“Unfortunately we didn’t win the game because if we had to score that goal as the winner would have been even more special. Lamela is an amazing player.”

Had any other player apart from Lamela produced that Rabona, many people would have been tempted to write it off as a fluke. However, Lamela is clearly one of the best in the world at that specific piece of skill given the many times he has pulled it off over the course of his career.
