‘An honour’ – Heung-min Son reacts after reaching another Tottenham milestone

Son Heung-min has admitted his delight at becoming Tottenham’s fifth-highest-leading goalscorer but insisted that he is more focused on achieving team honours rather than individual ones.

Son is currently the second longest-serving first-team player at Spurs after Ben Davies, having been at the North London club since 2015.

The South Korean is now the captain and undoubtedly the biggest superstar in the side, with his teammates looking to him to make the difference in key moments.

While Spurs fans will hope that Son remains at Tottenham for many years, there is no doubt that he has already done enough to go down as one of the club’s biggest modern-day legends.

Heung-min Son is honoured to be part of Tottenham history

The 31-year-old is now fifth in the club’s all-time goalscoring charts with 159 strikes to his name across all competitions so far.

While Son is still a long way off Jimmy Greaves and Harry Kane, the forward will certainly believe that he can go above the 200 mark over the next couple of years.

However, rather typically, the Spurs star has played down the achievement, insisting that individual stats are not as important to him as achieving success with his teammates.

When asked about making it to fifth place on the charts, Son told Beanyman Sports: “It’s a huge honour to be part of this conversation, but for me, the most important thing is the team is getting more successful rather than my individual stats.

Son will likely be the third-highest goalscorer in Tottenham’s history behind Kane and Greaves when he eventually leaves the club, which will be a monumental achievement considering he has not played as a striker for the majority of his time at the club.
