Steven Bergwijn has taken to social media to send a touching message to Tottenham fans after his move to Ajax was confirmed by the club (Spurs official).
The Dutchman departs Tottenham two and a half years on from joining the club from PSV Eindhoven.
The winger started his Spurs career with a bang, scoring a brilliant volley his first game for their Lilywhites in their 2-0 win over Manchester City.
Although Bergwijn showed regular glimpses of his quality, he did not quite live up to the initial promise he showed as he struggled to get a continuous run in the starting eleven.
The 24-year-old has now sealed a return to Ajax, whose academy he was part of before moving to Eindhoven. The winger will be hoping to take the Eredivisie by storm and head into the World Cup in a decent run of form.
Bergwijn has now taken to social media to thank Spurs fans for the memories and insisted that it was ‘an honour’ to wear the famous Lilywhite shirt.
Here’s what the winger posted on Instagram:

Things may not have worked out for Bergwijn at Tottenham due to various circumstances but the 24-year-old always gave his 100 per cent and wore his heart on his sleeve. His heroics against Leicester will live on in the memories of Spurs fans for years, if not decades, to come.
