Analytics firm reveal Tottenham’s odds of finishing in top four after Everton draw

According to Opta (as relayed by Sky Sports), Tottenham Hotspur now have just a 19 per cent chance of finishing in the top four this season.

Tottenham had an opportunity to go into third place in the Premier League with a win at Goodison Park but it was a familiar story for the Lilywhites, who conceded a late goal to throw away two points.

That means Spurs now sit level on points with Newcastle United and Manchester United but they have played two more games than both those sides.

According to Opta’s top four probability, which is calculated based on the probability of each match outcome, the result on Monday has significantly reduced the club’s chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

Before the game, Tottenham had a 29 per cent chance of finishing in the top four but that has dropped to just 19 per cent after Michael Keane’s late equaliser.

In comparison, Opta give Man Utd an 85 per cent chance of finishing in the top four and Newcastle a 67 per cent chance, making them the overwhelming favourites according to the model.

Spurs Web Opinion

The only reason Spurs still have a shot at finishing in the top four is because of the inconsistencies of our rivals.

Given our performance levels for the past several months, we should not be anywhere near the Champions League spots at the moment.
