Tottenham Hotspur were up against the odds in their game against league leaders Liverpool but the team has put in a spirited performance for the first forty five minutes and find themselves leading 1-0.
Mauricio Pochettino made several changes from the side that thrashed Red Star Belgrade 5-0 on Tuesday and some fans questioned the logic of leaving out the likes of Tanguy Ndombele and Ben Davies.
However, on the whole, the team has put in a dogged display after Harry Kane silenced the home crowd early on with a well-taken finish.
The home side did have periods of domination with Paulo Gazzaniga having to make some outstanding saves to keep them side from equalising.
Some Spurs fans were delighted with the spirit the team showed in the first half but were vary of celebrating too early given the team’s recent tendency to be leaky defensively.
Here’s how some Spurs fans reacted to the first half performance:
Maybe just maybe Poch knows more than we do. Defending very well.

Amazing scoreline obviously but that was not a good half. Ndombele is absolutely essential second half, probably for Eriksen with Dele pushing up.

That was the longest half of football I’ve watched in a long, long time. Halfway there. Somehow. Gazzaniga with a few top class saves for us. Need to nick another goal on the break. It’s going to be an agonising watch in the second half.

Anthony Taylor being so easily influenced by the crowd in the first half at Anfield. Fans get on top of him with anything remotely contentious and he caves. Handball decision there the first that's gone our way, much to the amusement of the travelling fans. #LIVTOT

Half time. We’re giving everything and we can’t ask for much more than that. Another tough 45 minutes to go. Keep it up, lads. #COYS 💪💙

Take Eriksen off, bring any one on.

Ahhh, I see #THFC are setting this up for maximum heartbreak today. Playing the hits. Unexpected, committed away performance that stirs hope you’d long thought run dry, before late capitulation and loss. Never have I simultaneously loved and hated something as much as this club.

Spurs Web Opinion
It’s a shame that Erik Lamela is injured for this one as he has the kind of fight needed for this game. Christian Eriksen has been too wasteful in possession and if he doesn’t get better, we will be better served bringing someone like Tanguy Ndombele on. Lucas Moura can also make an impact given the space Liverpool are leaving in behind.
