Andros Townsend clarifies whether he meant Spurs goal at Aston Villa

Tottenham Hotspur make the trip to the Midlands tomorrow afternoon to face Premier League newcomers Aston Villa.

The North Londoners will be looking to keep their push for a top four finish alive with victory against Dean Smith’s side.

Tottenham are unbeaten in their past eight league visits to Villa Park, winning the last four in a row. Villa haven’t beaten Spurs at home since January 2008.

Ahead of the match, the official Spurs Twitter account rolled back the years with footage of a goal from the 2-0 win back in 2013 along with the caption ‘Cross? Shot?’

Andros Townsend was arguably playing some of his best football at the time when both sides met and the Spurs academy product opened the scoring in the 31st-minute when his effort appeared to be a cross into the box where it evaded the likes of Roberto Soldado and Paulinho only to find its way into the back of the net.

Townsend took it upon himself to get involved by insisting somewhat ironically that he saw   a gap and went for it.

Spurs fans will certainly be hoping for more good fortune tomorrow and that all three points head back to the capital.
